Experience

When I was in the third grade, our teacher, Mrs. Perkins, asked the class to read a short story about a family of deer living in the forest (I can’t remember the name of the story), and then give a review, either in writing or by drawing a picture.

I found a long piece of paper and drew the entire story, frame by frame, working left to right across the page. My first storyboard.

Though it can be debated that it’s been downhill ever since, after considering careers as a professional sailor, fine artist, car importer and heavy equipment operator, I gravitated to the world of advertising, drawn by the notion of solving marketing and business problems through creative storytelling.

Over the course of my career, I have crossed paths with patient and wonderful mentors, brave clients, and rewarding opportunities. It has been exhilarating, challenging, and gratifying. Sometimes all in the same morning. 

And, though no longer a kid, I’m still curious, guilty of being hopelessly inspired and invigorated by the challenge of solving a problem with a fresh and interesting idea, no matter what the form may be, where it may appear, or the path taken to get there.
